The Silver Award

The Silver Award helps you enjoy the arts by taking part, going to arts events, finding out about the arts world and leading arts activities. You’ll experience the arts by setting a challenge, reviewing an event and researching the arts. You’ll share your skills through an arts project for other people.

You can choose an arts activity you really enjoy. Make sure you keep all your work in your Arts Award folder to document your evidence.

Unit 1 Arts Practices and Pathways

Part A: Identify and plan an arts challenge

First you set yourself a challenge in an arts activity you like. Your Arts Award adviser will help. You’ll improve your skills and develop as a budding artist by setting yourself a challenge to improve your art form. This could be a workshop or extra lessons or you could set yourself a task to complete that demonstrates how you have improved.

Part B: Implement and review the arts Challenge

You will need to review your challenge and gain feedback that you can reflect upon. This will help you to assess how your skills have improved.

Part C: Review arts events

You need to go to at least one arts event to find out more about your favourite arts activity. You’ll review this event and share your review with others. You can do this however you like – you can present to your group, or write for a magazine or a website

Part D: Arts research

This is where you do some hands-on research. You need to find out about arts activities in your area that you could get involved in. Also you need to research the jobs of people working in the arts. How did they get where they are? What course are available to train in your art?

Unit 2: Arts Leadership

This is the chance for you to share your skills with others. You get to plan and deliver an arts project for other people, supported by your adviser. You’ll inspire others with your creative spark, and help them to achieve their best. You can work on your own, or as a member of a leadership team. You’ll need to evaluate what you’ve achieved. The units are as follows:

Part A: Identify leadership role and plan the projects aims

Part B: Plan the practical issues

Part C: Effective arts leadership

Part D: Working effectively with others

Part E: Review the project and leadership role
